“How might your life have been different if there had been a place for you? A place for you to go… a place of women, to help you learn the ways of woman…” - Judith Duerk

To some extent, fashion magazines function as a substitute for this lack of a space. For better or worse, they give advice on what it means to be female in our culture.

With this in mind, I use fashion magazines as a source material for paintings, collages and zines about gender identity. For years I have been digging through these magazines, pulling out fragments of truth and resonance. Searching for something more, something deeper. Transforming the content into something closer to my lived experience.

I like to think of it as paper alchemy.
