People are fascinated by the physical aspects of Canberra but I have

made this work to capture the generations of people have worked here

in public service for other people. I want to show a city built on and

from those people who dedicated their best years to Canberra, creating

its iconic features. Like the tiny figures that toil to order chaos in the

scenery of old works like Dulle Griet ('Mad Meg' by Pieter Bruegel the Elder) these people strived to give meaning and value to Australian life

even though many of them will never be known to us,.

Inspired by neoclassical sculpture and old forms, this work combines the nobility of public service, the mundanity of bureaucracy and the shape of our surrounds to make something new and maybe amusing.
